You can use the rm command to delete a specific file or directory in Linux OS. In most Linux system, deleting a file requires admin permission. In this article I have explained about everything. Becareful when you use the command rm cause it doesn’t asks permission to delete a file. Therefore, if you delete a file it will be out of your Linux system permanantely. Linux is multi-user, therefore, it doesn’t allows you even to recover your deleted files. So, once you’ve deleted the files you are fired. If the file is deleted the Linux will use it for else purpose.


How to Remove Files Using “rm”?

Let’s learn to use the rm command. It is very command between Linux users. Beware about all your files and directories if you don’t want to lose an important file. To delete your desired file, follow me.

  1. To delete a simple file of name “ANYNAME“.


If it asks that “You want to delete a File?” then you just press “y” and press enter. It usually happens when your file is protected.

2. Delete multiple files using rm.


3. Force delete any file without any permission.


4. Use the rm command combined. This will delete all the files in the particular format, for example, .html, .txt

rm -fv *.html

Remove Directories Using rm command.

  1. Remove any folder[empty] using rm.

rm -d dirname

This will remove an empty folder easily.

2. Remove folder+all files in it.

rm -r dirname

3. Remove multiple folders+all files in them using the rm command.

rm -r dirname1 dirname2 dirname3

  • Usingless /etc/passwd to list users.

This command will help you to list the locally stored users in the system. After you’ve used the command it will give output as:

nuucp:*:6:5:uucp login user:/var/spool/uucppublic:/usr/sbin/uucp/uucico
jdoe:*:202:1:John Doe:/home/jdoe:/usr/bin/ksh 

The output format is as follows:

  • Username
  • Password(encrypted: you won’t be able to see)
  • UID
  • GID
  • Full Name
  • The home directory of a particular user.


  • Using compgen

This command helps you to list all the users without any further information. “compgen” is used with -u command. eg,

compgen -u

The output will be very simple like,


  • List the Usernames.

I have already told you about “compgen” command. There is another way to do the same thing.
cut -d: -f1 /etc/passwd
This will too, give you simple usernames without any further instance of the users.



  • List Users using Gatent Command:

It will give you a detailed output as I’ve shown in “less /etc/passwd“. Example,

nuucp:*:6:5:uucp login user:/var/spool/uucppublic:/usr/sbin/uucp/uucico
jdoe:*:202:1:John Doe:/home/jdoe:/usr/bin/ksh 

How to check existing users?

It is very simple to identify existing users. Just use the following command,

johndoe:x:1000:1000:John Doe,,,:/home/johndoe:/bin/bash

It will give you the output with all the details of the users if it exists.

4.  Insert <NEW-NAME> and reset the up-stream branch.

git push origin -u <NEW-NAME>

Now you’ve successfully renamed the local and remote git branch.

Precations: Just by typing sudo you’ll get superuser access or admin access. Make sure you do it cause without it you can’t do anything or proceed further.

Install Chrome in Linux:

  1. Download Google Chrome: First you’ll need to download google chrome file to further install it in your system. For that, you can just paste this code in terminal or just go to the official website of Google and download it from there.

2. After you finish downloading. You can further proceed. Ubuntu needs superuser access for that as I’ve told you just type sudo. This will allow you sudo privileges.

sudo dpkg -i google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb

3. Now you’ve successfully installed google chrome in Linux system. In case you are getting a no-sandbox error which most users face. Then follow these steps to furthermore solve that issue.

Solve NO-SandBox Error!!!

    • Navigate to “places” from the top bar.Install Chrome in Linux
    • Go to “Computer
    • Now go to “Usr” Folder.
    • Then go to the “Share” folder.
    • Press Ctrl + F key
  • Search for “chrome
  • You’ll find a chrome Icon appearing.
  • Then open properties of that.
  • Then in command section at last paste --no-sandbox
  • Go to the permissions in the same properties.
  • Then tick on “Allow executing the file as a program

Update Google Chrome in Linux:

For updating google chrome. It is a bit complicated, but don’t worry, I am here to help you.

  • First, you’ll need to edit your linux’s repository file. Just paste the below code in your terminal.

cat /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome.list

  • Find Admin Panel of Website: Here, Bhai shows you how you can find admin panel of a website.
  • Catch Newbie Hacker: This is a practical video that shows how you can catch a newbie black hat hacker who is hacking without hiding their IP.

Still, Quick Hack includes basic video practical such as how to create a bootable pen drive of Kali Linux, etc.
